Archival history

This collection of records was created by North Slope Higher Education Center. This organization became Sivunmun Iḷisaġvik College in 1991 and later Iḷisaġvik College in 1995. Initial batch of records remained in the possession of Iḷisaġvik College Records Office until they were transferred to Tuzzy Consortium Library in 2000. Second batch of records in the possession of Iḷisaġvik College Records Office until they were transferred to Tuzzy Consortium Library in 2017.

Scope and content

Series 01 contains 145 folders. Document types include articles, memos, Memorandums of Agreement, course catalogs, registration packets, correspondence pertaining to the history of the College, the College's application for membership to the American Indian Higher Education Consortium, Community College Candidacy, Higher Education in Rural Alaska, and the Inupiat Language and Culture Program, establishment of Higbee Library ( Tuzzy Consortium Library).

Series 02 contains three boxes of Audiovisual Material. Document types include 71 videocassette and 13 U-Matic tapes. Topics range from Inupiat Language and Culture Program, NSB Health & Social Services Profiles & Perspectives video series to video coverage of NSB fire department trying to save a burning structure, to two videos covering a disaster drill.

Physical characteristics and technical requirements

Files and papers are in good condition. Folders are standard paper file folders, not acid free. VHS material appear to be in good condition. U-Matic material is giving off an odor indicative of potential degradation. Audiovisual material has not been played so as to assess potential audio or video track loss.
